World face a difficult period of crisis in sotssfere - the head of the WTO

25-01-2012

The General Director of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Pascal Lamy considers that the worst effects of the economic crisis in the social and political sphere it will be ahead, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the Agence France Presse.

This Lamy said this at a press conference in Geneva.

"Worse for the social sector (period) of the crisis it will be ahead, and this means that the worst for Policy (period) also ahead," - said the director of WTO, adding that this difficult time will be "stress test" for the WTO system -- system, which prevents all manifestations of protectionism.

In late March, the WTO, in its report noted that many crisis measures taken by the governments of several countries in January this year, were significantly shift towards protectionism, and this could exacerbate the impact of the global crisis.

The organization warned of the risk of a gradual increase in trade restrictions that might hinder the recovery of world economy in crisis.

Earlier, leaders of EU member states have repeatedly called upon to resist protectionism and "market division" that could become a barrier to exit from the world economic crisis and recovery.
