Moldova ranks fifth among EU countries in terms of foodstuffs prices' growth Moldova ranks fifth in Europe in terms of increase in the prices of foodstuffs, which went up by 7.4 per cent in 2011, according to a top elaborated by the RIA Analitica on the basis of data gathered from 33 states. Belarus ranks first in this top, with a 2.2-fold increase in the prices of food products, being followed by Turkey, which witnessed a 12.2 per cent rise in prices, Cyprus, with a growth of 12.1 per cent and Kazakhstan, which recorded a 9.6-per-cent increase. Meanwhile, in Sweden, the foodstuff prices stood at the same level two years in a row, whereas in Norway, the prices decreased by 0.2 per cent. Ukraine and Romania saw slight increases in prices of 0.7 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively. In Russia, the prices of foodstuffs rose by 2.4 per cent in 2011.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the volume of industrial production declined 4,5% in March, 2012 as compared with March, 2011 The decline in industrial production was explained by 9,1% lower production in the mining industry, by 3,1% lower production in the processing industry and the 3,8% less production in the energy sector.
